Drawn to Life prints - coming soon

About Drawn to Life

Drawn to Life began as a daily creative drawing practice, coinciding with a somatic healing journey aimed to increase my nervous system's capacity for stress and uncertainty. After many months of drawing in the wee hours of the morning before work, I discovered some ideas for bringing my art to life, one of them being Drawn to Live Giving Cards, affirmation cards around mindfulness and self-self esteem for sharing with others.

I launched a Kickstarter project which successfully raised funds for the layout and printing. The project embraces social and environmental justice principles by committing to donating card decks to the local non-profit, Create Now, which brings art to at-risk youth in the Los Angeles area, and donating seedings to the Malibu Foundation for each art print order.

Squishy Blueberry

*

Squishy Blueberry was born many years ago and was my first imagined character. At the time, he represented to me the things I wanted to embody more in my own life: a childlike inquisitiveness, unbounded confidence and zest for life, and deep present moment awareness - things I still struggle with to this day. In addition to being a loyal muse and funny companion, he is responsible for my (ad)venture into a life outside the lines pursuing ways to bring dreams of educational and healing children's media to life.

Picture Books

I started bringing Squishy to life visually in 2013 and created two picture books. While the books are more like illustrated poetry than a traditional story, they are a window into the whimsical, abstract, imaginative world that Squishy Blueberry explores on his adventures. You can get print-on-demand and kindle copies on Amazon.

TV Show Dreams

I'm working to develop Squishy Blueberry into a kids TV show that teaches socio-emotional, nature, and mindfulness lessons. I still have work to do, such as testing out the different characters on people to see which ones resonates the most, to help inform the final pitch decks and episodes.

If you take the quiz below, I'd love to hear which one of characters you wind up with. You can send me a message: amanda@dinklingpublishing.com.

Perfect Sense

*

Perfect Sense arose from a place of outrage as I processed a decade of toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing. It is a journey towards meeting reality head-on, but stopping by intense cynicism on the way. It started out in book cover format under the title, The Science of Getting Real, and then evolved into more traditional 1 - 4 panel strips and renamed Perfect Sense. The artist is simple but the thoughts are deep. I'm currently moving off social media to another platform like Webtoon or Patreon. This will take some preparation and work, but once I do I will provide the link. In the meantime you can join my email list that sends out monthly philosophic musing interspersed with comics and other drawings.

Hollyfrost

*

Hollyfrost explores life's metaphysical, socio-economic and mental health issues through the eyes of neurodivergent tweens struggling to survive under an oppressive capitalist regime. It is geared towards people who like to explore complex concepts deeply, like South Park does, but prefer PG-rated content.

Comic Strip

As I continue to look for a venue to turn this into an animated show, I have brought some of the themes in the episode ideas to life in comic strips. I initially created a set of 20, which I started redrawing in Procreate digitally. That has taken a back burner though to my other projects for now.

Imagine the News

Back in 2016, I started noticing how books like Brave New World and 1984 seemed to be coming true, and it was tempting to see them as prophetic. But over time, I've started started to wonder if they may have also helped create the future by planting the seeds in our minds? Was it all really inevitable? What if we started imagining the good news we want to see and hear? More than just broad concepts of "peace," but very detailed stories of GOOD things happening. Would that help usher in a brighter future? Well, that's what I'm trying to find out

The Silly Philosopher Tweets

This account was created as a space where I could let my smart-alec, sarcastic, silly self free, however, I stop using social media regularly a few years ago,  so I will have to find a new home for him - perhaps on BlueSky, where there are fewer ads.
